History of the Association
Sign Advertising Association was established in 1978 with the main objective to develop advertising sign and screen printing business. After 14 years of SAA, some members from screen printing sector proposed to form the Thai Screen Printing Association in order to have direct activities on developing screen printing industry, therefore, on April 28, 1992 at the Annual General Assembly of SAA it was agreed that SAA changed to “Advertising Sign Producer Association” Afterwards, 3 personnel from screen printing sector; Dr. Chaval Sothiwanwong, Mr.Chaiyaboon Kulsiriswadi & Mr.Yongyuth Thangjitpiyanont, who were the co-founders of Thai Screen Printing Association-TSPA had officially registered and was approved by Thai Government on October 9, 1992. Later on, TSPA was changed to Thai Screen Printing and Graphic Imaging Association-TSGA.
TSGA consisting of members, honourable advisors, education sectors, committee members etc. have been working on various activities in order to develop Thai screen printing and related industries with vision, mission, policy and work plan. Consequently, TSGA has formed the roadmap called “Seven Steps to Screen Valley” as a long term strategy and work plan to develop the industry as follows:
1. Elements of Association
2. A Menu of Activities
3. A Management System
4. Connect Screen and Digital Printing Processes to 18 business target groups
5. Set up Standardization
6. Forming Screen Cluster
7. Screen Valley
From the beginning, the chartered President, Dr. ChavalSothiwanwong gracefully formed Friendship and Cooperation among screen printers and screen printing material manufacturers to agree on the concept that united we stand – we help each other……. Not only on screen printing, he went further to be the co-founder of the Thai Federation of Printing Industry which certainly created more cooperation in the Thai printing industry. In 2001, Mr. ChaiyaboonKulsiriswadi – Vice President of TSGA was elected TSGA President and moved forward to create various projects on development of the industry domestically and internationally. TSGA has been solidly working with ASGA (Asian Screen Printing & Graphic Imaging Association) and FESPA (Federation of European Screen Printers Association). In 2005, TSGA was awarded the Best Trade Association on Quality Service by the Ministry of Commerce, additionally, TSGA was invited to become Associate Association Member of FESPA. At this time, TSGA was working on the roadmap Seven Steps to Screen Valley – step 5 Standardization. In 2006, Mr. PirachThampipit – Vice President of TSGA was elected TSGA President and is further pursuing various projects on step 5 Standardization, step 6 Screen Cluster and step 7 Screen Valley. On standardization, TSGA is working closely with Office of Small and Medium Enterprises Promotion (OSMEP) and Rajamangala University of Technology Thanyaburi (RMUTT) especially with the full support of Dr.VichaiPayackso – Mass Communication Technology. On Cluster, TSGA and 6 other related associations have already formed a cluster with the aim to utilize printing processes to create value added to their products. On Screen Valley, TSGA as the co-organizer with FESPA had organized FESPA World Expo Asia Pacific 2008 which was the first international screen printing and graphic imaging exhibition in South East Asia.
TSGA fully recognized its roles of association and capability of its industry on how to act as a supporting function to other industries with the main objective to create value added to various products such as 1. to make product more functional 2. better decoration with the great concern on product safety and also on social & environmental issues. Furthermore, TSGA has been working on various projects to support education, society. Presently, there are 302 members to which TSGA has regularly organized friendship and social gathering activities plus development activities i.e. seminar, factory visit, exhibition trip etc. Along TSGA roadmap, stability – wealth – standardization have been realized among TSGA members who are determined to work closely with TSGA to develop the industry to the international standard.
